I did something similiar the first time my valves started ticking. I put in extra oil because the reading was low when I checked - what I didn't realize was I was on a slight hill with the butt end of the van up. I had a new oil leak after driving around for a few minutes (looked real neat when I went to adjust the timing). I just pulled the crank pulley and found the main seal in two pieces...
