The TDI is the new computerized Diesel Engine that VW is installing in their Beetles, Jettas and Passats and soon to be in the Golf. Why is it so great? 60mpg and 90hp and 150ft/lb of torque for a 1.9L engine. The engine is so computerized there there is no throttle cable direct from the padal to the engine - it is totally drive by wire! The other neat thing is that the turbo's propeller has variable pitch so the torque is from about 1900 to 4000 or so RPM.... Very flat! The down side to these is they are rare, the last one that I know of sold at the wreckers for $3500 and it was a little damaged!
