Need help on an 87 GL Vanagon full camper. Just divorced young woman needs to "liquidate some assets" and org. asked $7,900--is now $6.900 and says she wants high $5K for it.

I want Auto, AC, reasonable appearance. 2 out of 3 is not bad (body dings).

Good stuff: Maroon color/silver interior. Camper inside looks good and she says the stove/frig works. (She also says the AC works great, but the belt is off 'cause she never uses it). Had a $2K rebuild at indepedant import shop.

Bad stuff: 141K miles on odo. The engine is nasty dirty to have been "rebuilt" only 10K ago. She doesn/t have receipt for r/b but said the shop would give her a copy. Wonder about the AC. Needs all 4 tires. Has cracked w/s on passenger side. No hub caps. Rear bumper dented. Missing both front bumper end caps. Corner dings on almost all 4 corners. 2 locations of seam rust with apparent poor matching of respray.

She thinks its worth high $5K. Got any suggestions for it's real worth? She claims the dealer she bought it from said it books at high $7's.

I want to buy a dependable bus I can drive 300--500 miles to VW shows with minor fear of major breakdown. Have a 96 Jeep Cherokee I will try to sell and will drive bus everyday. Am I going to be better off looking for a newer/lower mileage like a 89/90 or should I think of a Eurovan? The low import numbers of the EV worry me but I also hear all the leaking head stories on this list on Vanagons.

P.S. We had a great show at Pigeon Forge, Tn. this weekend even with cold/rainy Saturday. Sunday cleared up and was nice all day. Weren't a lot of buses there.
