Craig,

Go to a FLAPS or indie VW shop and get a driver's side door lock; it will come with a key. Pry the interior door panel off (being careful of the speaker wires) and you can easily replace it with a ratchet-screwdriver, no sweat. (remember, this is for NON-POWER-DOOR-LOCKS.) You might consider doing the slide door instead, though, because it's easier just to crawl through to the drivers seat than to actually enter thru the driver's door, and loading cargo won't involve the multi-step process of opening the driver door, etc. etc.

Have a good weekend, in advance! Sam
