Subject: Panic: was sold wrong head for 82 air vanagon
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

My machine shop sold me a head for my two litre air cooled 1982 Vanagon, but turns out to be the head for the ~ '78 or so two litre air cooled motor.

This I discover when about to connect the exhaust pipes from the air box to the new head. I'm not about to take the head off, since all the trouble putting in new rings and all.

1. Does anyone make a small pipe adapter that will extend the exhaust pipes to this earlier model head?

or

2. Does anyone have a fritzed air box from a late seventies van, from which I can cut off the exhaust pipes, and connect them properly to my new head, then weld them to the 82 air box?

or

3. Am I stupid to consider custom work? Just take off the head and give it back to the machine shop. It was their error in the first place. (Except that no one around these parts has the proper 82 head in question.)

Spitting nails in the north.
