Well, yesterday I drove my DC down to San Jose.  Very oddly, I passed
another Transporter along Highway 101 in the very south end of SJ.  This
was a white Vanagon Singlecab, canvas and all.  I am pretty sure I passed
this same singlecab in the same spot almost a year ago.  Strange.

I also took a look and the current VW bus -- the VR6 EuroVan for 1998.  I'm
not too interested in an automatic (wife hates 'em more'n me!), so it was
a quick look.  The bus looked nice, but was listed at US$31,000.  Maybe I
have not looked at cars recently, so "sticker shock" was perhaps to be
expected.  But at $31,000 this is not the old bus for the masses, I think.
VW seems to be selling a lot of the new Beetles at $18,000.  I don't recall
that the old busses were twice the price of the old Beetle, and the new
beetle is not exactly the low-price leader that the old one was.  $31k seemed
a bit high to me -- and this for basically a standard bus.

Oh, well.  I'm glad the buses are back.  I wish there were manuals and Syncros.
I'd probably consider buying one (but then VW would probably be asking $50k...)
