Subject: Gauges and gadgets for the 1.9l TD conversion?
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com, vw-diesel@velocity.bc.ca

Listees,

I'm planning to add some new gauges to monitor the health of my new (precious) 1.9l TD engine. I'm thinking maybe a 3 gauge cluster (Should fit nicely in the central console area of the vanagon)

In the future I will want to experiment with higher boost, intercooler and perhaps LPG fumigation, so 2 of the gauges should probably be for the turbo:

1/ Boost pressure 2/ Pytometer (temperature) in the exhaust manifold.

Anything else I need or could use for the turbo?

If I stick to three, what would the next most important one be? Oil pressure, right?! Or should I have oil temp as well? (there are already 3 temp senders on the head for the std vanagon temp gauge and idiot light. I thought that migh be enough) Anything else?

Next question:

Where are then the best/cheapest sources for:

1/ Boost pressure gauge (Do these have a seprate sender, or do I have to pull a hose to the dash?)

2/ Pyrometer sender and gauge?

3/ Oil pressure gauge and sender?

I looked at a few WWW pages selling VDO stuff, but couldnt find boost pressure or pyrometers. Any other brands than VDO I should consider?

Thanks for your insights! /Martin
