It is possable you might have dropped a "ground" somewhere. I once went a long time doctoring a car that dropped a ground when there was a small electical fire in the engine compartment. I went through many batteries, parked faceing down on hills, and replaced an alternator before someone in passing just happened to mention a missing ground which made me wonder about a unaccounted for wire I found after putting out the fire.

Since most everything looked like it still made contact - I just forgot about it. But after awhile and not right away, the charging light came on to stay.

Now you know the rest of the story....
