A fully adjustable seatback is quite vital to my back for comfort on long drives. Years ago, I installed a pair of fully adjustable Volvo front bucket seats in my former 72 Westy. This was accomplished (safely, I thought) by bolting them through the seat support box/floor. This was necessary because the mounting system of the Volvo seats was completely different from that of the VW.

The Vanagon seats (IMHO) are much improved over those of the buses. However, if anyone knows about any other seats that are interchangeable with Vanagons, please let me and the List know about them. What I am really searching for are seats with fully adjustable backrests AND armrests. If such seats exist, they could be modified by attaching Vanagon seat rails (available from castoff seats).

Alternately, the entire mounting system could be shifted to accomodate the new seats. This could be done by bolting them through the floor, and using the seat adjustment mechanism that is specific to the new seats.
