Volkswagen Passat Consumer Reports Feb. 1998, pg. 56 On page 55: The road test of four fours for the family: Mazda 626LX, Nissan AltimaGXE, Honda AccordEX, Volkswagen PassatGLS
"The Passat handles and brakes better than the Camry, so it's more fun to drive. It has many safety features, and its front seats are excellent. But the Passat's four-cylinder engine isn't as smooth, and VW recommends premium fuel. Some controls, including those for the climate-control system, aren't as convenient. The Passat's basic warranty is shorter than most--two years or 24,000 miles--but scheduled maintenance is free. And the powertrain warranty is generous--10 years or 100,000 miles. The Audi A4, from which the Passat was derived, has been very reliable, but we can't predict the Passat's reliability yet." Want More? Bill |
