Due to some "custom" wiring by one of our van's DPOs, it seems the A/C system is pretty my hopelessly shot and I don't feel like paying someone big bucks to straighten it all out. Example: A/C doesn't come on until headlights are turned on and most recently the headlight switch started smoking. So, my wife and I decided that if we can stand this summer without A/C, I'm ripping out all the components to lighten the van, create storage space, and put some real rear speakers in. The question: I'd like to retain the blower and fan ductwork just to move air around and was wondering what relays, if any, might prevent this from being used as a simple air moving system. I know the air is coming from the rear of the van, but it's better than no moving air at all. Just unhook the compressor clutch and go with it? BTW, before people start asking me for parts, the compressor has blown seals (not seized though), and I don't know the state of the rest of the system. It blew cold right up until the compressor failed. Regards, -Karl Karl and Kristina Bloss, Trexlertown, PA '87 GL Weekender "Beverley" VW shop list: http://www.enter.net/~bloss/vw/vwshops |
