Subject: Oil Pressure problems

It seems that I'm having a bit of an oil pressure problem. My new (around 3k miles) engine starts up fine with 60+ psi, but after warming up, especially after a long, sustained run (like freeway time) idle pressure dwindles to around 10! 2000 rpm pressure barely makes 20 psi. The drop in pressure seems to be related to temperature, as the pressure remains in the good range till a few minutes after the temp gauge settles in and the thermostat opens. I'm reading all this with a VDO dual sensor, on an extension hose, mounted next to the coolant expansion tank on the heat shield. Valvoline 10-40 dino juice, proper Mann filter. I haven't yet checked out the pressure relief valve. Interestingly, I didn't notice low pressure before I re-sealed my oil pump, which was leaking due to me forgetting a gasket. I was wondering a bit about crankcase pressure, and stood staring at my engine for a good ten minutes trying to remember if the damn thing had a PCV valve. The only thing that approaches one, it seems, is the stack where the alternator stand would go if this were a type 1 engine.

Any suggestions?
