Subject: Checking for air in cooling system

I had my radiator cleaned last week (my mechanic removed it and took it to a radiator shop) and a new water pump installed. I think that my mechanic didn't get all the air out of the cooling system. It was 100F in Macon today, and even with the A/C on full, needle on temp gauge stayed at midpoint except when I was stopped at a traffic light or moving slowly such as in a parking lot. Then the temp gauge needle headed for the 3/4 mark. Is this normal for operation in very hot weather?

When I turn off the engine, I can hear some bubbling in the radiator. I think this is from trapped air as there also is some air in the expansion tank when the van is cool. If I crack the pressure cap, antifreeze come out and the air seems to go other places.

What is best way of getting last traces of air from the cooling system?
