I've had this happen and it turned out the wire to the sender was worn through the insulation where it was lying against some sheet metal in the engine compartment, The oil sender is on the left side head, hidden by the sheel metal panel that covers the push rods. Locate the wire to it and trace it back to the wire bundle it come out of. By sure it is in good condition and not pinched or damaged. Hope this helps.
