Subject: 1.9 to 2.1 conversion(long)

Hello Listees, Just wanted to explain the differences on the two motors. The
1.9 case is different than a 2.1. Internally it accepts the 2.1 crank because
of being opened for like a stroker cdranmk. Externally the case right near the
flywheel is different, the 2.1 is wider, and this is to accept the air box on
top. The bolt or stud size is even different right there. It's a very small
difference, but if you had the 2 cases next to each other, you could see it
for sure. Now to throw in another little VW glitch, the 1985-had a one year
only case which is the wider 2.1 version near the flywheel, but had all 1.9
internals. So when you are dealimng with a true 1085, like March or later, you
have to be sure the customers gets back that wide case. You cannot sell the
customer a true 2.1 case for like an 1984 conversion, because their air box
would not fit on. Sorry this is so long, then you take the 1.9 case, and open
it up slightly,to make it a 2.1 size, then put on the 2.1 Pistons & cylinders,
and the 2.1 heads. Actually the one list member was correct in saying you can
use 1.9 heads, they are interchangeable i9f used as a pair, but most people
getting the 2.1 ,like to have the 2.1 heads also. We sold dozens of these, and
had very good responses from people because of the power increase, for not too
bad of money increase. All we are actually charging for is the cost of the 2.1
crank, they have a very high core value, and are hard to find, so we have had
to charge customers what it costs us for a crank plus shipping is like 216.00,
so for now weve been charging people an increase of 200. for them turning in a
1.9 in place of a 2.1. Kyle @ Volks Cafe has had experience with installing
them, and we have never heard of anybody having any problems with adjustments
being different, or running different. Jerry Skervitz just purchased one also
for his 1.9 van, and said it all fit fine, adj fine, no changes from his 1.9.
Remember you are still getting a 1.9 case, so all externals fit exactly, like
waterpump etc. So hopefully this clarifies the questions, feel free to call if
anyone needs futher info, and dyno test info etc. 1-800-548-5766. Thanks for
your time.
