Subject: Syncro vs. Bentley and other questions

Hi y'all I was digging into the Bentley and my syncro's front brakes and found that the two are not in agreement. Similar, yes but not the same. I figured it out (brakes are mostly simple) but was curious how often I would run into things like this. After all the manual covers 8 something years of Vanagon. Anyway, I also wondered about the completeness of the manual...for instance my brakes (and others I have worked on) had a vibration dampening good all over the pads which Bentley did not mention at all. Also they mention noting about lubrication of the various points. Whats up? Incidentally, I put my pads back in and used some blue RTV silicone in place of the stuff that was there (above mentioned vibration stuff) Was this a bad call? One specific question I wanted to post to the List on a different subject... What is the scoop on lubrication of bolts? Lube All bolts always (threads I mean) Or some bolts Always and some bolts never. Any consensus here? How about lube type? Another thing, does anyone have good suggestion on quality torque wrenches to buy? Is it best to buy 2 to cover the low range and the high range or can a good larger one also accurately handle the lower torques as well? Thanks Nat 91 syncro westy.
