Subject: Alternator problem
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

I need help, and don't have the time to look in the archives. On the way to work this morning I noticed the air conditioner blower was going slower and slower. I figured it was a bad resistor pack, blower motor bearings, or something exotic that would take hours, if not days to trouble shoot. When I pull into the parking garage at work and go to turn on my lights - nothing. I open my sink drawer, it's a Westy, where I keep my multimeter, and check the voltage at the cigarette lighter and get 7.5 volts. I then notice I have no lights on the dash to alert me to a charging problem. Then again, there may not be enough voltage, because my fuel ang temp. guage were doing nothing. My question. Does the famous blue wire have anything to do with this? I have a spare alternator with me, doesn't everyone, which I can install, but if it is just a wire I would rather just fix that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Doug '86 Gl Westy Maryland, 93 degrees and counting
