Although it may be possible to "repair" the expansion tank, the fact that it has one crack is indicative of a general failure of the tank. That is, you fix the known crack, but what other cracks are just waiting to happen (i.e., when you're out in the middle of nowhere with no water in sight!).

As a back-up the "repaired" tank may do, but as a daily in-use tank, I don't think the savings in not purchasing a NEW tank off-sets the potential and possible costs that would be incurred down the road for an engine rebuild, when/if the repaired tank "gives" and your engine fries.
