For what it's worth, my '84's water pump came with a C-clamp on it...and it held up on the 15-mile trip home! I still have it as a conversation piece. I'll have to check it this evening to look for a brand name (might be in Portuguese).

It had better- for what I paid for mine ($55 at a Bug shop, as opposed to ~$25 for MOST OTHER CARS), my new water pump oughtta cook meals for me!!!!
