I like the Spillmaster (TM) cupholders. They're available many places, such as WalMart and Target, I believe. I mounted one on each side of the ashtray on the dash of my '90 Syncro. They were about $6 each, and have adjustable jaws. I like having them up high like that. Any 16-oz thermal cup with a handle works great, putting the handle just a few inches from your right hand. The adhesive tapes works fine (mine's been firmly stalled for over a year). I hesitated to use the tape, thinking it wouldn't work, and would disfigure the dash--but the pluses won out.

The Spillmaster come with a shoe horn-shaped gadget that fastens to the bottom, which allows you to use the holder in the back seats by slipping the attachment in the crack between the bench and back part of the seats. For seats with armrests, there's an aftermarket strap (which I haven't tried) that will fasten it to these. There are two models of the Spillmaster -- I bought the larger, more expensive ones, though I don't know the model number.
