Yes. In my 88 I had the connector above the A/C duct get hot and would not conduct the #2 speed circuit. Some of the connector plastic melted and interfered with the connection. I searched for a reason for the connector to overheat but could find no external reason. I thinkk that perhaps my #2 speed circuit was not making a good connection there and it caused the overheating. I finally bypassed the 4-wide VW connector for the #2 circuit and installed another connector. The connector is approximately between the driver and front passenger's heads. To get to it, you'll need to remove the front AC duct section above the windshield and the duct piece connected to it.

Hi All,

I too had this fan dysfunction and the same connector was melted. I went to my local radio shack and got another connector and simply rewired the entire junction just to make sure all connections were good. It's holding up great after 6 months.
