On Sun, 28 Jun 1998 14:14:35 -0700 you said: >My driver's side vent window won't stay opened if I'm driving over 30mph or >so. I've looked in the Bentley, but it doesn't cover this particular >problem. Before I start disassembling everything, I wonder if anyone has any >experience fixing this.

yeah. :( it is the worse design i think i have ever seen on the bus or any car (well, cept for that stuff on the Chevy Vega ...).

ok, the bottom pivot point has a long foot/shaft that sticks down into the door. on the bottom of this shaft is a clamp. this clamp looks like the letter P with the shaft sticking though the "hole" in the P. there is a screw that tightens the "leg" of the P (there are TWO plates/sides to the leg). this controls the tightness of the vent window movement.

well, that sounds simple. sure does. it's the getting AT that screw that is the bitch. :( you have to take the door panel off, peel back the vapor barrier (you DID roll the window glass UP, didn't you?) and get a flashlight and a small mirror (cause you can't see it at all) and a small pair of Vise-Grips to turn the screw. it's a phillips-head screw, but there is no way you are gonna get a screwdriver of any shape or form in there. the morons who designed this made it easy to assemble OUTside the car!! then the whole frame of the window/vent-window was stuffed down into the door. :(

the screw is on the outer side of the clamp ... facing the OUTside of the car. which makes it even more difficult. it would have been waaaaay too simple to design it so it faced INside (and maybe cut/drill a hole in the door metal so you could stick a screwdriver in there!!!!!) :(

also be careful of your hands and fingers ... the metal edges up in there are sharp and will cut/nick your skin.

it's a real pain to do this, but it can be done. figure at least an hour of sweating and grunting to see it, reach it, grab it and tighten it.

and for those of you whose vent windows are too tight, this is how you loosen them as well.

good luck! joel
