After several months with very few Westy's for sale, suddenly I found three. I drove a very nice 84 GL, full camper, 2nd owner, 88K miles, garage kept, yellow/tan. It is way above average but is a 4 speed and I would like an automatic (wife won't drive a straight shift). Also the owner won't budge from his $5,000 price. Has AC but owner says he had it charged last year and it really doesn't blow very cold. Is that true of the rear AC?

I have found an 87 GL Camper (3 hrs away), Grey, no rust, small scratch on right side, 113K, auto, original owner. All service records--I talked to owner but I have not seen in flesh--only in a BW photo for sale for $6,000. Tried to get the guy with the 84 to budge a little on his price based on this van. Doesn't this sound like a good price for the 87 if it is in as good a shape as the seller says? BTW, it's an older German guy with heavy accent who said he did most of his own service.

Does the 87 have the rear-only AC like the 84? or did VW add front vents by '87. I printed off the by-year list from Vanagon.com but I didn't see that feature listed. I can't go see the 87 until the weekend and we are leaving for vacation for a week this Saturday. If it doesn't sell before we get back, I will probably go look at it.
