Subject: loud squeal from rear brake

Hey all, while fire roading the other day at about 35-40 mph i heard a loud squeal from my rear drum brake. it was short in duration and was quieting down just as i was turning my radio down to hear it better. i continued slowly rolling along for a bit but no more noise. my friend drove for a bit with me jogging beside the rear right wheel and no unusual noise. i touched the rear right drum and it was scalding hot, much hotter than the left drum, so i parked and pulled the drum. the drum came off easily and there was nothing noticeably wrong, like scaring of the shoe and the shoe settings were right on at 250mm. after replacing the drum and continuing on i heard no further noises and the temperature of the drum returned to normal.

the only thing different about this drum was that the little plastic plug covering the adjuster hole was missing.

is it possible that a little chunk of road debris got in there and cause the squeal till it was munched? any other thots?

thanks, fred
