Subject: 4K miles on rebuilt AVP engine--Brief Report
Comments: To: Vanagon List <Vanagon@VANAGON.COM>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello All,

To make it brief, I now have 4,500 miles on my AVP rebuilt engine, installed by Autohaus Lancaster in PA.

Nothing much to report. It runs great! I'm getting approx. 20 miles per gallon, using 1/2 quart of oil every 2K miles or so (actually, the oil level seems to go down to the lower dipstick line and stay there whenever I top off the oil--same as my old engine. There's only 1/2 quart between the lines on my dipstick).

This new engine seems to like 89 octane, so I'm feeding it that for the time being. I put Mobil 1 in at 1500 miles, after verifying engine break-in info with AVP. Runs smooth and quiet.

I would recommend an AVP engine to anyone--they were really helpful, and the VW dealer commented on how nice the engine looked (I can verify how well it works).

Y'know, the van is still for sale, but I somehow haven't put the for sale signs in it for the last couple of months.... :-)

And most telling, my wife tells me we should keep the van--she doesn't want to give it up!

--Dave

PS--Apologies to the person who wrote me asking for this info a couple of weeks back--I lost your email and address in a nasty hard drive crash, so I hope this public report reaches you.
