They are sealed tight. In fact, the bottom tank, ie holding tank, is designed to be removed and carried sideways like a suitcase to be emptied. You can tilt it any angle, even upside-down and it won't leak. The upper tank, ie fresh water tank, will however leak clean water if you tumble the Potti. Good luck.
