Curiosity. The mechanic is a friend and neighbor. I wanted to know what the status of the compression was now and what it was compared to what it tested at a pre-purchase inspection by German Auto four years and 27k miles ago (it was down in two cyl by 5 & 10). The cylinder leak test was his suggestion since he had the scope which was used to check status of the plug wires. Based on input (so far) from Joel Walker and Justin Jensen, something appears wrong with the test procedure. As they said, it just doesn't follow with such compression that there should be comparatively poor leak test. In answer to you question, hills are not a problem except the usual for a VW. Mileage is good: 19 on the road. Any other ideas? Thank You Kit Carter |
