----------------- I replaced my front heater blower motor last spring. I have an 86 westy , 2wd, 4speed, with a/c. There was some foam rubber sealing material on all three flaps inside the heater. It was in terrible shape more than half was torn off and missing. The lower flap (turns air on /off to warm your toes) you can probably see the foam seal if you lay on the floor and glance up inside the heater. There is another flap that allows air to flow out your windshield defroster and the last allows air to flow through the doors to the rear vents. You could probably plug all three of these with some rags or paper towels or block the outside inlet if you like. If you pull the front unit you can replace all these seals and it will make a big difference in your controls . You can finally turn them all off if you desire. I used some foam material from a hardware store because I didn't know about the seals you are asking about until I was inside the unit. A much better plan since you know you will be inside the unit is to get new ones from vw or one of the list venders, provided they are available of course. It will save you much time trimming and sizing the necessary foam seals. Be sure to free up / lube all the controls while you are inside the unit, and it will work like a brand new one.
