Yes, Paul, you can clean the idle control valve, however the mechanic should have done that before installing. Just unhook the wires and pull the vacuum hose and wiggle it out, then use a solvent ( I used "carb cleaner") to clean it inside and out, reinstall. About 15 minutes. Could also be the idle stabilizer control unit, located behind the right tail light. This unit can be repaired if you can locate the bad part (diode, capacitor, etc.) and replace it by soldering a new one in. You can check the idle stabilizer by removing it with the ignition OFF, then start the van, it will not idle when cold, but will after a few blocks. If it doesn't "race" at the stop light any more, then you have found your problem. New idle stabilizer control units run around $200 +. Iv'e been running without one for several months.
