Subject: Oil Temp Sender??

I bought a VDO oil temp guage, but can't figure out where to mount the sender. Supposedly it goes in the oil drain plug hole, but not on my '81 2.0L Type IV engine it doesn't. And the oil dipstick senders are all too short and stiff to work either. Surely someone must have done this before??? Please email me directly as I only read the list in the archives. Thanx.
