Though I have written Steve off as hopelessly confused on this issue, I find that I too have a strong urge to correct him as you have done here. But I have found that posts such as yours, no matter how excellent or well reasoned, just made do not make any impact on his thinking.

You watch. There is a 70% chance that he will argue with this post and then challenge you to correct *his* logic, not to study *your* logic. Everything you say here is true, but Steve by historical precedent will not likely listen to it.

Every time I log on to my computer, I say, "Steve will not listen to you. Do not think upon this any more." And then I find myself composing in my head replies such as you have to correct him, but I am resisting posting any more because it is a hopeless cause and not worth it.

I now distrust what he had to say about alignments too.
