Leaks seem to be a hot topic; here are my leak comments and Q's:

Fuel leaks. Another vanagon has tragically burned due to fuel leaks. Does any one know what the racing folks do with thier fuel lines? Don't they use those wirebraid armored and fireshielded ones? Is there a hydraulic fuse that would stop fuel flow if the line were cut?

Oil leaks. On my Westy diesel the plastic oil filler spout had a tiny crack at the mounting boss. The leak caused oil to cover all the back end of the engine area making it difficult to find the source. A extensive cleaning with harsh chemicals was required to find it and sealent did not fix it. Only replacing this flimsy part with another will fix, I'm told. Does any one have a metal t2 part adapted for this purpse?

Coolant leak. On my westy I noticed a wet spot on one of the metal coolant pipes at a point just aft of the fuel tank. The supply and return pipes are very close here and it looks like gravel has collected between the pipes and the riding of the gravel has formed a tiny hole. This is only a "weeping" condition now, treated by watchful waiting and topping of the coolant. The fix, such as JB Weld or the like would require lowering the fuel tank which I'm not prepared to do as it would probably snoball into more problems.

Thanks so much for all the advice on awnings and skylites, this list is a wonderful resource.
