I'll have to agree with that. I have the Haynes aircooled Vanagon manual, and I have found it to be useful in repairs involving parts common to all early Vgons, regardless of engine cooling medium. Sure, for procedures that I already know, I prefer to use the Bentley by itself; it's more comprehensive. However, for those more "unusual" repairs, it's nice to have a step-by-step procedure to refer to, if for no other reason than to not screw up even if you can figure things out for yourself. Pictures are a great reference tool.

By and large, the situation dictates the need.
