I hauled a 1979 GTI 200km with mine using a U-haul tow dolley. According to the U-haul guy this is the limit of what I can tow. The Auto-transport trailer was not listed for Vanagons. I had no problems towing the 2000 lb GTI and the 500 lb dolley, stopping was the problem. It seems the Vanagon brakes like the 4400lb syncro but adding 50% more weight really taxes them.
