So, I'm narrowing the search for the perfect, affordable tires for my '87 Syncro Westie. But, since I want to have 2 spares for the trip to South America, I'm going to need another wheel and a place to put the extra spare.

If I go to a junk yard that specializes in VW stuff, what kind of wheel do I ask for? Any 14" steel VW wheel? How much should it cost? If I can't find a used one, do I go to VW for a new one or do I get one from the list suppliers?

Assuming I get the wheel, buy the tires and now have two mounted spares, where do I put the extra spare? The 55-south listees have been talking about mounting an extra spare on the rear. It seems to me that this would be in the way. Can't you mount a tire on the front, like the older buses do? At any rate, do I look for a spare tire mount in the junk yards, too? If I can't find one, how do I get a new one?

All help for the newbie will be much appreciated.

Jeanne 87 Syncro Westie
