Subject: Whining Fuel Pump - Fixed!!!

Fellow Listees!!

Today I finally got the whining fuel pump and the cutting out under acceleration solved. As you may remember, the fuel tank has a new liner, new fuel pump, and fuel filter. It would idle fine but cut out under acceleration. Many list members believed it was starved for fuel. I performed the test for the fuel pump and got exactly 500 cc of gas in 30 secs as described in Bentley. I then decided to punch a hole in the screen sock covering the tank outlet (many listees felt the polymer lining could be blocking the screen). Also before I test drove the van again I took off the return line at the tank and snaked a wire up into the tank. I also sprayed carb. cleaner in both openings.

I started the van and the whining sound from the pump was gone!!! It also drove without cutting out and sputtering. Im not sure if it was a clog in the fuel inlet or outlet but, the problem is gone for now!!!

Thanks again for everyone's help! Scott 81 Westy
