Just a foot note:

Folks, you HAVE to replace the filter-receiver-dryer any time you work on the
AC. It is the cheapest part of the system, (about $35?) and is designed to
RAPIDLY absorb moisture and contaminants. It gets clogged really easily.

If you replace hoses, change refrigerant, leave the system open to the
atmosphere for more than a few minutes, or have had your f-r-d in for more
than a couple years, replace it when you service the AC, or else be hot and
sad when some other expensive componants fail prematurely... The cheapskate
always pays the most.
