my question, and i do have one, is: do you think it's ok to continue driving? i'd planned to do some errands this afternoon and would be driving about 100 miles roundtrip.

anyway, i've printed out all the emails from you and i'll pass them onto the mechanic, who has warmed to the idea of a cumulative brain trust working on the problem.

thanks again, all

Okay, some folks will hem and haw on this. But as a recovering cheapskate, I thought I would pass on a cheapskate solution that worked for me in a similar circumstance.

Slick 50 manual transmission additive. I had a '76 (091) bus that had a worn- out synchro on 1 & 2. I NEEDED to drive the van to Mexico and back (from NC) hauling five friends and luggage. In a bind I gave the Slick 50 product a shot, and it worked.

I ended up putting 45k on that bus without a rebuild (tranny) and sold it with it shifting fine. For $12.00, it may be worth a try. FLAPS
