Subject: 2.1 Engine in an '85

Hi volks, I am currently working on taking the good stuff out of my '87 GL and putting it in my '85 Westy. One of hose items is the 2.1 engine. I have saved notes to the list from back several years in anticipation of doing this swap. It appears that there are several approaches. Since I have two complete cars, what I am doing appears to be a bit different from what others have done. Has anyone done a swap tlike the following?

It appears that I can remove all the cooling system plumbing from the '87 and place it in the '85. By moving the coolant distribution unit and the metal pipe that goes around the inside of the engine cover, it looks like I can use the 2.1 plumbing and water pump and the hoses will all match up. The only problem appears to be that the big hoses that go to the radiator and back are longer on the '85 and may need to be adjusted to make everything fit. Am I missing anything?

It has been reported that the throttle housing from the 1.9 must be used when the 2.1 engine is placed in a vehcle that originally had a 1.9 in it so the curvy hose from the air box will it. I looked at and measured both the 1.9 and 2.1 throttle housings. They appear to be identical. I am going to leave the air plenum, the intake runners , the throttle housing, and the injectors from the 2.1 on the engine unless I hear different.

Thanks for your help in advance.
