Subject: AC/ Radiator Fan Switch Question

My AC is working fine in my 88 Vanagon, but my wife reports that the radator fan does not come on right away when the AC system is switched on. It apparently is coming on when the coolant temp switch senses the higher water temperature. Am I missing something here? When I switch on the AC in my 85 Jetta Turbo Diesel the raditor fan comes on right away. Isn't this also true for the Vanagon? Thanks,

Bill Lund
