Jeanne, I don't know if anyone has p-mailed you, or if you are already aware, that All tires on a Syncro _must_ be the same size, brand, tread pattern and of equal wear. If not, then you will engage the viscus coupling constantly and wear it out. I believe the limit is three millimeters difference. I may not be following your letter correctly, but it sounds like you have two Hancook tires and the other two are of a different brand. This is not acceptable for a Syncro. A new VC runs around $2100 and is only available from a VW dealer. You may find a used one, but to my knowledge no one has found a way to test a used VC to know if it is good or not. The only way is to install it and go off road.
