Hi: A couple of years ago someone posted a message about ground plane on Westys, or rather lack of ground plane, and had a seemingly good solution to fixing the proplem. The fiberglass top does not act as a good ground plane so he pointed out that you can go to a CB store and get wire that you glue or silicone to the top of the vehicle in a star shape. Make the star as large as the top will allow. The more points you make on the star the better the ground plane. As I remember I think you have to run a wire from the star over to the antenna ( which is located in the middle of the star) and ground it to the antenna. The antenna can be a magnetic mount. Just get a piece of metal (maybe galvanized), paint it up and silicone it to the middle of the top and stick the antenna to it. As large as a Westy top is I think it should then act great as a ground plane. Perhaps the orignal person that posted this idea can verify that I got it right.
