From my 11 year use of our Vanagon Syncro, I'm getting 15-18 mpg in city
and 16-19 mpg on highways.   If I can find non-reformulated gas I can get
much better mpg.  The best mpg I've ever got is 23 mpg with
non-reformulated gas which we were driving in Denver area.

For those interested in knowing, I only got 40mpg on the first tank of fuel
in my New Beetle TDI in combination city and highway driving.  Hopefully
this
will improve with "breaking-in".
What kind of gas mileage do late 80's model Vanagons get?  Just curious.
