Place the cylinder at Top Dead Center. Loosen the valve adjusting screw until it just touches the pushrod - then tighten two full turns. Do this for each cylinder. The first cylinder is easy to find TDC - just follow the mark on the pulley. Use the distributor to find TDC on the rest of the cylinders.

Why would a misadjust valve cause an oil light to flash? Your hydraulic lifters should compensate if the adjustment is not too far off.

Also, check the oil pressure valve.
