Hi Karen , stick with a 87 or newer vanagon, even newer if possible. Find one that is in like new condition and properly maintained, new heads is an added plus. Take your time when looking. I've seen a company in Santa Clara advertize here on the list selling completely refurbished and guarranteed Westy's. Try finding them if you can. Good luck, Michael Modl, 87 syncro
