<< Hi gang, posted a message earlier about other VW listserves with no reply. There must be some out there with 2.0l 16v VW's..others could help to. Some quick advise is needed please.

I've been lazy and haven't flushed the cooling system on any of my VW's for 5-7 years! I want to do this now to my Passat (16v, 2.0l) which I'm bringing out of hibernation. What antifreeze would you recommend. Also, will do the oil change which I've been religious about every 5k (kms). Thinking synthetic this time; what oil? 3-prong plugs? if so, which ones. Should I do the tranny (std) oil which is original, syntheic?

You get the drift, any help would be GREATLY appreciated, Bruce

>> Hi Bruce, use VW Autobahn coolant, trying to get all the coolant out of the 16V is a pain. An upper and lower radiator hose will need to be partially removed and then flush as best as possible. Premix the coolant, 50/50 with water, reinstall the lower hose, add the premix to the coolant reseviour till premix comes out the upper hose, you will have pushed out clear water. Start the car and let it run for 5 minutes, shut it off and top off the reseviour when needed, don't start it for an hour, this is to help to prevent an air lock. On the oil, use Mobil One 15w-50w. Spark plugs, use Bosch F6DTC plugs (three prongers). On the tranny, use Redline synthetic. Good luck. Michael Modl 87 syncro.
