Hello listees, I picked up the front half (to be) of the stretch last weekend. Yippie! Randy, of Randys VW stuff in Arvada CO found a 86 Synchro 7 passenger in great shape. I flew out on Saturday using a cheap last minute web fare, and drove it 1400 miles back home. The ignition switch died about halfway through Nevada, killing the headlights, but other than that it was a easy trip. It's gold, so I'll be painting it inside and out after I weld it onto the Westie rear. I've updated the web page for the stretch http://www.evcl.com/strvan/strvan.html I need to sell some parts to recover part of the purchase price so I'll probaly sell the transmission. The trouble is, I don't know what it's worth. It has a diff lock. I'm told that it was rebuilt by a dealer about 7 thousand miles ago. Unfortunatly it's not all well. I've noticed that it grinds into third if it's shifted very quickly. Normal casual shifting is quiet. It doesn't whine or pop out of gears. If anyone can tell me what it's worth I'd really appreciate it.
