I was just reading about Bob's adventures in A/C work. I am the new and 2nd owner of an 86 syncro. I'm about to embark on a major road trip and thought I'd have the A/C recharged. I don't know much about A/C except the old and new freon story. I know virtually nothing about the particulars of VW A/C. Can anyone tell me (hopefully this evening) whether I can safely/confidently have the system recharged at my local Wal-mart? Or is this a job for VW specialists? Right now, the fan switch seems to operate just fine and the fuse is good. I can hear the compressor kick on when I turn the thermostat. But if it was a balloon, we'd be flyin' high. So, I'm hoping that there are no leaks and that a simple 'filler up' of freon will make my trip across the prarie so much more pleasant. Thanks, Gary |
