Steven, My '84 GL owners manual refers to both tire types for the Vanagon, the reinforced and the light truck (LT). The tire pressure sticker only refers to the LT tires. It sounds like you have the reinforced tires, and if I recall correctly, it is 38F/40R. I use Michelin reinforced and use 40F/40R for simplicity. My Vanagon came with Michelin LT tires which I inflated to the pressures on the sticker. I also once used another brand of LT tire, again with higher pressures. I found the steering effort about the same with all of them (manual steering). So, if you have your owners manual, check the pressures there, and also look at the load range on the tires to be sure that they are safe. Don't inflate to more than the value given on the tire itself (cold). Mike |
