Hi all,

With all this talk about replacing horns I thought I might add this anecdote about how I fixed a Volkswagen 12volt horn that had stopped working, probably from lack of use. Yeah, I'm a mellow guy. Anyway, after verifying the thing had 12 volts getting to it when I hit the horn button I decided it probably just needed a jolt to come back to life, kind of like those defibulator things on the TV doctor shows. So I carefully hooked up a lamp cord to the two terminals, layed it on the bench and plugged it into the wall just long enough for it to yelp in pain like a hurt animal. Worked fine thereafter until I got rid of that car a couple of years later.

This procedure is probably pretty dangerous and should only be attempted by trained professionals like myself.

Have a Vanagon day,
